Snow My God!

After the past two snow days here at EIU I learned that technology has become our best friend. On the Monday afternoon news on WGN Tom Skilling was comparing the blizzard that was about to pummel Chicago to the one that hit in 1967. The difference was that back in 1967 people didn't have the same access to the internet,TV, and other advanced technologies like we have today. Now that the storm has come and past I have observed how the storm has affected the business world of the city. I was interested to see how people spent their days, and I wanted to see if this blizzard in fact moved people to stay inside and spend more money than they would usually on a normal Tuesday. According to chicagobreakingbusiness.com there was a lot of positive and even productive work coming from Chicago on a lot of peoples surprise day off. Business that were forced to have their employees still work used email and phone conferences and the internet to survive the day financially. There was a negative to the day when an Restaurant Week event was scheduled to bring 500 guests to the Chicago Theater got post poned which might end up losing revenue. There was also some dedicated workers at The Trump International Hotel & Tower, which put about 50 of its staffers up overnight, for their safety and to keep the hotel running smoothly, said T. Colm O’Callaghan, its vice president and managing director.(ChicagoTribune Staff report)In the end it is refreshing to know that we as a public still are functional in a time that can be chaotic. I have enjoyed my last two days off in college history, but we must continue business as usual and spend spend spend to keep our economy strong, and these past two days showed that no snow can bring us down!
